On Tuesday, in our academic lesson, we started to make our band presentation for unit 12. The presentation is about our plans for our final show at the O2 and includes several sections about our genre, style, social media and influences. We have almost completed the presentation now, it should hopefully be done by the end of the week. After our presentation the rest of the band were shocked to find out that Will, our guitarist had quit the course and won’t be coming back. Not only has this left a detrimental effect on Novacane, but it also has done the same on my solo project, as Will was the guitarist for that too. I now have to find a new guitarist for both my bands and try and get them to learn both sets in four weeks for our O2 gig.
During our production lesson we continued to work on our EP and we started to think of plans now that Will had left the course. We have decided we are going to ask either Ross or Ryan (artists in residence) to be our guitarist for the O2, as they know our music quite well and have a similar music taste and style to the rest of the band.
We also wrote a plan for the rest of the course:
EP:
MIX AND MASTER LESSON LEARNT
FINISH DEEPER SHADES
FINISH ILLUSIONS
START RECORDING FLAVOUR
O2 SET
WRITE ANOTHER SONG
WRITE PIANO INTERLUDE
EXPLORE POSSIBILITY OF CONFETTI CANNON
CONSIDER LIGHTING FOR DIFFERENT SONGS
During our Thursday rehearsal, Ryan stepped in as our guitarist for rehearsals and we went through as many songs on our set list as possible. After about 45 minutes of rehearsing, we went into the studio and recorded the vocals for “Illusions”; we now have four songs recorded and our plan is to record our disco song “Flavour” when we come back to college after the Easter break.
As we don’t have much time left until our final gig, I want to spend the upcoming Easter holidays productively, and I would like to get as much work done as possible and not take my foot off the gas. I have a lot of work to do as I do not only have my band EP with Novacane, but I also have my solo EP to complete. Here is a small plan I have written for the half term:
EASTER WEEK 1&2:
- Get all due coursework done
- Go into college on Wednesday and record the rest of 2nd song for solo EP
- Arrange getting a new guitarist for solo band and arrange getting a pianist, too
- Arrange a Novacane rehearsal
- Record third solo song at Nicks studios
- Get fourth solo song written – research quintessential R&B
By the end of Easter half term, my aim is to have all my coursework completed, have all my songs for my solo set recorded and written, and to have at least one rehearsal with Novacane. This way we can be prepared for when we come back to college on the 23rd April and just make sure that both sets are perfected- we can put most of our focus into stage presence, audience interaction and special effects.
