BAND PRACTICE AND PRODUCTION WEEK 2

This week, our main focus was to finish off our first original song, “Conscience Alley” and perhaps start to think of new ideas for a second original. We managed to completely finish the song on Thursday, by perfecting the vocal melody, adding harmonies on the chorus, and sorting out the tempo and other small details. In order for us to be completely satisfied with the song, we wanted to perfect the finer details. These include:

- Vocal harmonies (We decided that Ellie was going to sing the main melody, and I was going to sing the harmonies quietly underneath on the chorus. This added more layers and structure to the song)

- A small interlude in which the guitar and bass play in harmony with one another after the third verse. (This allows Leila and Will to show off their timing skills with one another).

- Matching the entire bass line to the kick drum

- A break after the second verse where Leila and Will again play in harmony with one another.

Here is a clip of us rehearsing our first song :

We are all really happy with how our first song has turned out, and hopefully, our next songs continue to be at this standard, or to even get better. We also started to write a second original, which we are hoping to finish by next week. Again, Will came up with a fantastic guitar riff and we want to build the song around that. Leila also added a bassline to match the guitar. We are going to focus on drums, vocals and keys during next week’s rehearsals. We will also be starting to record “Conscience Alley” next week in our production lessons with Phil.
