Today, we started to record “Lesson Learnt” and “Conscience Alley” at SAE. So far, we have recorded, drums, most of the guitar, bass, and keys. All that is left for next week now is lead vocals and harmonies as well as the finishing touches on guitar.
The first thing we did was record a guide track to both songs with drums, guitar and bass. Since the guide tracks weren’t as good as we expected them to be, it was decided that Jack was going to record his drums to a click track instead. Everything that Jack played was tight and exactly like we rehearsed so he recorded his takes instantly.
Here are some clips of the recording process:
After we finished recording Jack’s takes on the drums, we recorded the bass and guitar, by plugging them straight into the desk and playing to a click.
I decided to stay at SAE after everyone went home until 8pm so that I could record the perfect takes on the Steinway grand piano. This was the first time as a pianist that I had ever played grand piano and it sounded fantastic. I am really looking forward to getting the whole song recorded and hearing all the instrumentation together.
